UMWG is pleased to announce the return of the Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial. Begun in 1997, the Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial highlights new developments in painting within our region and is open to artists 18 years of age and older currently living in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The MANP 2024 juror is Heather Hakimzadeh, Senior Curator and Special Projects Manager at Virginia MOCA.

UMWG received a record number of entries from 210 artists submitting 593 works.  69 artists, displaying 76 artworks, were selected for inclusion in the 2024 Mid-Atlantic New Painting exhibition. The following awards were announced at the opening reception on November 7th:

• Mid-Atlantic Purchase Prize(s): Lou Haney, Lounge Lizard, 2024 and Pooja Campbell, Prep, 2024
• Best in Show – 1st Place: Kristen Letts Kovak, Fern Hollow (2023)
• Best in Show – 2nd Place: John Dempsey, Glare #20: Oopsie-Daisy (2024)
• Best in Show – 3rd Place: Amanda Lechner, Tarantula Hawk, Touch, Camp Fire (2022)
