Join UMW Galleries for an artists’ round table on Thursday, November 6th at 5pm in Seacobeck Hall 145. UMW Associate Professor Dr. Ranjit Singh will moderate the discussion with Patawomeck tribal members and artists included in Adaptation, Innovation, and Tradition: Art from the Patawomeck Community.

Intersection Gallery Talk with Carlson, Kung, and Hardesty

Join UMW Galleries, David Carlson, Chee Keong Kung, and Sarah Hardesty for a gallery talk on October 9th at 5pm in Ridderhof Martin Gallery. Intersection brings together the abstract paintings of David Carlson alongside the mixed-media paintings, sculptures, and installations by Chee Keong Kung. Intersection is curated by Sarah Hardesty, an artist and associate professor of art at Marymount University.

Gallery Talk with Erika Stearly

Join us on Thursday, September 11th at 5pm in duPont Gallery for a talk with Take A Painting artist Erika Stearly. Erika Stearly is a painter living and working in Pennsylvania. Ms. Stearly launched Take a Painting in 2013, which was installed in venues across PA and NJ before being paused due to the pandemic. Her installation has been supported by grants from various organizations and universities, including the Puffin Foundation and the Black Rock Arts Foundation.

Gallery Talk with Self Adjacent Curators

Join us on Tuesday, April 16th at 5pm for a Gallery Talk with the curators of Self Adjacent, Sarah Irvin and Tracy Stonestreet.
Self Adjacent examines the transforming experience of parenthood by artists as they navigate their many identities alongside and within the field of caregiving. Featuring the diverse viewpoints of twenty artists from across North America, Self Adjacent includes photography, performance, painting, printmaking, video, textile, and sculpture.

ASAE Juror Talk with Jason Stopa

Join us on Monday, March 24th in Seacobeck 145 at 5PM for a talk with Annual Student Art Exhibition guest juror Jason Stopa. Jason Stopa is a writer and painter working in Brooklyn, New York. He holds an MFA from Pratt Institute and a BFA from Indiana University. Stopa’s work has been showcased in both national and international exhibitions, with notable solo shows at the Diane Rosenstein Gallery in Los Angeles and Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York. An interview with Stopa in conjunction with his exhibition Interior Monument at Sevil Dolmaci Gallery in Istanbul was recently written up in Vogue: Turkiye.

Gallery Talk with Carole Garmon

Join the UMW Galleries for a talk with artist and curator Carole Garmon on Thursday, March 13th at 5pm in duPont Gallery. Garmon will discuss the artists and works in the exhibition The Class: If You’re Asking the Question, You Already Know the Answer.

The Class: If You’re Asking the Question, You Already Know the Answer brings together pieces from twenty-four artists – former students, most of whom are UMW alumni. The exhibition showcases the legacy of Garmon’s 25 years of instruction and the compelling work that graduates continue to create as they shape the contemporary art world. This exhibition is co-curated by Shanna Aberle, UMW Class of 2024.

Artist Talk with George Ferrandi

Please join us Thursday, February 6th at 5pm for an artist talk by internationally acclaimed American artist George Ferrandi. The talk will take place in Seacobeck 145, and is open to everyone.

George Ferrandi is a visual artist based in New York, working in sculpture, performance, and public projects. Over the past several years, she has been collaborating with artists across the United States and internationally on Jump!Star, a multi-site, publicly engaged project that explores the shifting location of the North Star. George’s work has been exhibited around the world, at the International House of Japan in Tokyo, at Abrons Arts Center in New York, the Kitchen in New York, Cinders Gallery in Brooklyn, the McKinney Contemporary in Dallas, the Wexner Center in Columbus, the Harn Museum in Gainesville, Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia and at Sluice in London. She is an NEA fellow of the Japan – US Friendship Foundation and has also been awarded grants from the Franklin Furnace Fundwinners for Performance Art, and the Mid Atlantic Arts Council.

George’s exhibition, The Double Infinity of Jump!Star: Simmering, is currently on view at Ridderhof Martin Gallery on campus. This exhibition showcases the American premier of artwork produced in collaboration with Jump!Star’s Vienna-based creative team, and includes elements of a multi-faceted public art project presented by Brunnenpassage and Weltmuseum Wien during Documenta 15. At the center of the exhibition at Ridderhof Martin Gallery is a rope woven by participants from around the globe during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020.
