Paintbrush and Sagebrush

“When looking for material in an unfamiliar area much time can be spent finding even common flowers in a characteristic setting–or for that matter, learning to recognize what is characteristic. We had read about Indian paintbrush blooming among the sage and liked the idea.”

–Fred Wampler

Here Wampler captures the Indian paintbrush and sagebrush in a western landscape. The Indian paintbrush is the state flower of Wyoming and sagebrush is the flower of Nevada. Wampler takes their origin into account in this composition, which includes infinitely rolling hills and voluminous clouds in the middle ground.
